WEBVTT

00:00:01.604 --> 00:00:04.110
It's another great day on News and Grooves.

00:00:04.110 --> 00:00:05.365
Thanks for coming in.

00:00:05.365 --> 00:00:08.449
You're listening to the News and Grooves podcast.

00:00:08.449 --> 00:00:31.245
We bring you the best original music you will ever hear.

00:00:31.245 --> 00:00:35.219
Here is a song that the lyrics was written by a brother of mine, Mr Dan Nightingale, called Angel.

00:00:41.298 --> 00:01:03.274
Angel, angel, if that's what you are Sitting at the lonely end of the bar, angel, I hate to stare.

00:01:03.274 --> 00:01:13.612
Could I sit near you On that empty chair beside you?

00:01:13.612 --> 00:01:18.688
Lady?

00:01:18.688 --> 00:01:21.694
I like your eyes.

00:01:21.694 --> 00:01:36.528
They change colors In this damn dim bar light that surrounds you.

00:01:36.528 --> 00:01:45.453
Lady, I like your smile.

00:01:45.453 --> 00:01:53.890
When you look my way Takes the pain away.

00:01:57.090 --> 00:02:05.932
Angel at the end of the bar If that's who you really are.

00:02:05.932 --> 00:02:17.573
Angel at the end of the bar You're not really there, are you?

00:02:17.573 --> 00:02:24.443
Angel?

00:02:24.443 --> 00:02:26.710
Can I buy you a drink?

00:02:26.710 --> 00:02:38.663
It's been a while since I've seen you, wasn't it just last week?

00:02:38.663 --> 00:02:44.427
I see your glass is full.

00:02:44.427 --> 00:03:08.725
Has someone else taken that empty barstool Beside you?

00:03:08.725 --> 00:03:17.913
Angel at the end of the bar, if that's who you really are.

00:03:17.913 --> 00:03:28.924
Angel at the end of the bar, you're not really there, are you?

00:03:28.924 --> 00:03:44.588
Every Friday night I see you there, you don't really care, hanging on to anyone you can find.

00:03:44.588 --> 00:03:47.313
Well, in this case, girl.

00:03:47.313 --> 00:03:53.552
Well, in this case, girl.

00:03:53.552 --> 00:03:58.391
Well, in this case, girl.

00:03:58.391 --> 00:04:01.425
You're not really there, are you?

00:04:01.425 --> 00:04:06.175
You're not really there, are you?

00:04:06.175 --> 00:04:15.301
You're not really there.

00:04:15.301 --> 00:04:18.464
Angel at the bar, you're not really there, are you?

00:04:30.192 --> 00:04:32.134
11 million dollars in gold coins.

00:04:32.134 --> 00:04:43.348
A couple from Sierra Nevada, california, literally struck gold when they noticed the top of an old canister sticking out of the ground while walking their dog around their property in 2013.

00:04:43.348 --> 00:04:50.761
Inside the canister was a bunch of old gold coins, and when the couple later returned to the spot where they found it, they dug up another seven canisters.

00:04:50.761 --> 00:05:07.091
Altogether, the eight canisters contained 1,427 coins dating from 1847 to 1894, four $5 gold pieces, $50-$10 gold pieces and $1,373 double eagles.

00:05:07.091 --> 00:05:16.834
Though the coin's face value in the 19th century was $27,980, their age and rarity made the treasure trove worth around $11 million.

00:05:16.834 --> 00:05:19.307
Not bad for a walk around the yard.

00:05:19.307 --> 00:05:31.065
Several coins were auctioned at the Old San Francisco Mint in May 2014, including one coin, an $1874 double eagle, that sold for $15,000.

00:05:31.329 --> 00:05:34.180
Pink Floyd formed in London in 1965.

00:05:34.180 --> 00:05:44.343
This progressive rock band is renowned for their lush sonic landscapes, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows that often incorporated visual projections and other multimedia elements.

00:05:44.343 --> 00:05:53.661
Their groundbreaking concept albums explored themes like war, mental illness and alienation, while pushing the boundaries of rock music with their experimental soundscapes.

00:05:53.661 --> 00:06:01.992
They remain one of the most in-pink Floyd Flitzel bands in history, with a dedicated fan base and lasting impact on contemporary music.

00:06:07.615 --> 00:06:19.403
Thanks for listening to the News and Grooves podcast.

00:06:19.403 --> 00:06:23.867
Can you tell a green?

00:06:23.987 --> 00:06:25.127
field.

00:06:25.127 --> 00:06:28.019
Thanks for listening to the News and Grooves podcast.

00:06:41.290 --> 00:06:45.000
True lovers don't fight this way.

00:06:45.000 --> 00:06:51.642
They don't throw hearts away.

00:06:51.642 --> 00:07:00.360
Every word of heavy stone Leave the love we used to own.

00:07:00.360 --> 00:07:12.420
Breaking down the fragile trust Turned our diamond into dust.

00:07:12.420 --> 00:07:21.769
Promises we left behind Can't rewind the love confined.

00:07:21.769 --> 00:07:25.180
True lovers don't fight.

00:07:25.180 --> 00:07:30.154
Oh no, they hold tight, never let go.

00:07:30.154 --> 00:07:31.819
It's a battle in the night.

00:07:31.819 --> 00:07:35.742
Nothing here feels right.

00:07:35.742 --> 00:07:41.242
Once we danced the evening slow.

00:07:41.242 --> 00:07:47.963
Now these shadows start to grow.

00:07:47.963 --> 00:07:52.199
Where's the fire?

00:07:52.199 --> 00:08:14.860
We used to know In the tears that flow and flow, late nights filled with bitter ends.

00:08:14.860 --> 00:08:18.723
We are now at Upper Session Road.

00:08:18.723 --> 00:08:21.423
True lovers don't fight.

00:08:21.423 --> 00:08:26.487
Oh no, they hold tight, never let go.

00:08:26.487 --> 00:08:28.048
It's a battle in the night.

00:08:28.048 --> 00:08:33.566
Nothing here feels right.

00:08:33.566 --> 00:09:07.450
No-transcript.

00:09:07.450 --> 00:09:13.452
True lovers don't fight.

00:09:13.452 --> 00:09:14.538
Oh no, they hold tight, never let go.

00:09:14.538 --> 00:09:16.085
It's a battle in the night.

00:09:16.085 --> 00:09:20.192
Nothing here feels right.

00:09:33.884 --> 00:09:36.287
In Snomish Washington there's a bar called the Oxford.

00:09:36.287 --> 00:09:41.081
It has a violent history as there have been at least two or three deaths, murders there.

00:09:41.081 --> 00:09:48.941
My parents have gone a few times to listen to live bands and heard of women being locked in the bathroom and plates shattering in the kitchen when no one was around.

00:09:48.941 --> 00:09:56.018
One night my dad had a glass of red wine and headed downstairs to the basement where there's pool tables and another bar.

00:09:56.018 --> 00:10:00.754
He says that the cup part of his glass exploded in his hand and there was a pop sound.

00:10:00.754 --> 00:10:07.096
He looked down and he only had the wine glass stem in his hand and there was no red wine or glass on or around him.

00:10:07.096 --> 00:10:18.505
In a bit of a daze he went to the bartender, handed her the stem and explained what happened and she replied no problem, that kind of stuff happens all the time and handed him a new glass.

00:10:20.010 --> 00:10:23.822
Please don't forget that May 26th is Memorial Day.

00:10:23.822 --> 00:10:30.202
Don't ever forget all of our soldiers who gave their full measure of devotion for our country.

00:10:30.202 --> 00:10:31.375
God bless them all.

00:10:31.375 --> 00:10:35.385
Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Peterson, aloha, aloha.

00:10:36.890 --> 00:10:37.735
What a beautiful day.

00:10:37.735 --> 00:10:40.557
The cemetery looks absolutely gorgeous.

00:10:40.557 --> 00:10:52.475
There are about 25 million living American veterans today and since General Washington commanded the Continental Army, 42 million Americans have served the colors.

00:10:52.475 --> 00:10:56.030
A million more have been killed in its defense and another million and a half wounded.

00:10:56.030 --> 00:11:05.552
These are small numbers compared to the billions across the planet and billions yet still unborn that live free because Americans have fought and died for their freedom.

00:11:08.438 --> 00:11:19.394
Memorial Day was established by presidential decree on the 5th of May 1868 and first observed later that month, on the 30th, when all the graves at Arlington National Cemetery were decorated with flowers and flags.

00:11:19.394 --> 00:11:30.692
Through the years, memorial Day continued to mean visiting and decorating graves or town square memorials to those who died serving our great nation, and celebrating with parades and civic events.

00:11:30.692 --> 00:11:41.480
Americans in the past kept the day quiet, pausing to remember, at least for a little while, the kind of men and women that so willingly gave that last full measure.

00:11:41.480 --> 00:11:45.698
When I was growing up, I felt in awe of my grandfather's generation.

00:11:45.698 --> 00:11:56.080
Guadalcanal, sicily, tarawa, salerno, iwo Jima, normandy those places were real to them, they lived it.

00:11:56.080 --> 00:12:01.121
Then came my father's generation, trudging through the jungles of Vietnam.

00:12:01.121 --> 00:12:03.316
It was a bit different then.

00:12:03.316 --> 00:12:07.438
We removed our hats during the national anthem.

00:12:07.438 --> 00:12:16.558
We said the Pledge of Allegiance before school and it didn't offend anyone's sensitivities or seen as trampling on the rights of anyone else.

00:12:16.558 --> 00:12:24.682
Memorial Day was a day to remember our heroes, with a day of reverence to repay the debt that we could truly never repay.

00:12:27.111 --> 00:12:33.500
We live in a different time today, and people have indeed lost something of quality over the years.

00:12:33.500 --> 00:12:38.880
We don't always see that same selfless devotion to something bigger than ourselves.

00:12:38.880 --> 00:12:50.421
Memorial Day today is more about a day to take advantage of the big sales at the malls or fighting the traffic to get to the beach for a long weekend.

00:12:50.421 --> 00:13:11.738
But we should be ashamed of ourselves if we forget that, as we enjoy the long weekend, that we are again at war today and a new generation continues to fight and win against an enemy on our behalf in Afghanistan and other locations around the globe.

00:13:11.738 --> 00:13:22.418
And, in contrast, my grandfather and father's generations, where nearly everyone had family that served, only about 1% of Americans serve today.

00:13:24.150 --> 00:13:27.201
But I can say with confidence that Americans will always stand for what is right.

00:13:27.201 --> 00:13:36.402
I brought my son Bo here today, and when I look at him I know that his generation will carry on that tradition too.

00:13:36.402 --> 00:13:44.801
Nope, they'll carry on that American legacy forward, just as his father and grandfather had done as well.

00:13:44.801 --> 00:13:46.764
Why?

00:13:46.764 --> 00:13:51.860
Because we love America and are willing to die for freedom in our way of life.

00:13:51.860 --> 00:13:58.900
Memorial Day is not as much for our families of the fallen or for us who have been to combat and endured losses.

00:13:58.900 --> 00:14:01.856
We remember those guys every day.

00:14:01.856 --> 00:14:12.480
Memorial Day is for the rest of the nation's citizens, to remember and say thank you to those that have fallen and given so much to all of us.

00:14:12.480 --> 00:14:15.817
May all of our fallen rest peacefully.

00:14:15.817 --> 00:14:30.260
May we who love them find peace and understanding in their sacrifice, and that the America that they so loved and protected and gave their lives for is forever worthy.

00:14:30.260 --> 00:14:34.135
We will never forget you.

00:14:34.135 --> 00:14:36.595
God bless America.

00:14:36.595 --> 00:14:38.730
I love America, thank you.

00:14:53.183 --> 00:14:59.557
We'll spin it like a runaway dream Highway.

00:14:59.557 --> 00:15:06.677
Whispers calling out to my team, whispers calling out to my team.

00:15:06.677 --> 00:15:26.057
Jersey skies spreading white and bold, chasing tomorrow while the night gets cold, lace up boots dusted with the past, boots dusted with the past.

00:15:26.057 --> 00:15:28.982
We're built to move and hit the gas.

00:15:28.982 --> 00:15:42.003
Cities fading in the rearview, light Hitting the line before the break of night.

00:15:42.003 --> 00:15:45.740
We're back on the road again.

00:15:45.740 --> 00:15:54.879
No start, no end, just a highway's friend, rolling thunder under life's command.

00:15:54.879 --> 00:16:14.283
Back on the road With dreams in hand, fast food wrappers in the backseat, cake, a jukebox spirit we're born to crave.

00:16:14.283 --> 00:16:21.004
Station calling can't lose the signal now.

00:16:21.004 --> 00:16:25.633
Every heartbeat shouting.

00:16:25.633 --> 00:16:31.277
Don't ask how We'll see upside down, but we know our lane.

00:16:31.277 --> 00:16:56.828
Freedom's a fever we can't explain.

00:16:56.828 --> 00:17:12.085
We're back on the road again.

00:17:12.085 --> 00:17:19.145
No start, no end, just a highway's friend, rolling thunder under life's command.

00:17:19.145 --> 00:17:22.398
Back on the road.

00:17:36.814 --> 00:17:38.575
With dreams in hand.

00:17:38.575 --> 00:17:56.622
Yeah, hello, my mom and dad listen to forget, but it's too sublime.

00:18:23.000 --> 00:18:26.851
So I'm reaching for you one last time.

00:18:26.851 --> 00:18:32.771
The curtain's heavy, but my heart won't stall.

00:18:32.771 --> 00:18:37.790
Your name echoes softly through this hall.

00:18:37.790 --> 00:18:42.652
Every whispered note feels like a rhyme.

00:18:42.652 --> 00:18:47.231
Still, I'm reaching for you one last time.

00:18:47.231 --> 00:18:52.711
Can you hear me across this divide?

00:18:52.711 --> 00:19:08.771
Feel the pull of the love I can't hide Our story's soundtrack climbs and chimes Calling me to reach just one more time?

00:19:08.771 --> 00:19:16.594
Every step I take sends shivers through the night.

00:19:16.594 --> 00:19:21.853
I'll brave all the darkness to stand in your light.

00:19:21.853 --> 00:19:30.892
The clock hands take out their relentless climb While I reach for you one last time.

00:19:30.892 --> 00:19:41.310
Your face in the stars, your laugh in the breeze, memories haunting like ghosts in the trees.

00:19:41.310 --> 00:19:51.549
But even with nothing, I'd make the climb and still I'd reach for you one last time.

00:19:51.549 --> 00:20:00.134
Can you hear me across this divide?

00:20:00.134 --> 00:20:04.839
Feel the pull of a love I can't hide?

00:20:04.839 --> 00:20:16.282
Our story's soundtrack climbs and chimes Calling me to reach just one more time.

00:20:32.030 --> 00:20:36.113
Starting Sunday, june 8th, news and Grooves will add a second show.

00:20:36.113 --> 00:20:42.056
So there will be two different shows running each week and all week the Sunday show will be a little different.

00:20:42.056 --> 00:20:45.577
We will put more of a priority on music than stories.

00:20:45.577 --> 00:20:52.880
We will also add some singer-songwriters and their music to mix in with the greatest original AI music in the world.

00:20:52.880 --> 00:20:57.010
So mark your calendars starting June 8th to News and Grooves a week.

00:20:57.010 --> 00:20:59.163
That is all the time we have this week.

00:20:59.163 --> 00:21:06.095
Please remember to say a prayer on memorial day for our soldiers who gave their last measure of devotion for our country.
